ABOUT ME

Welcome to my website. My name is Tibor Eperjessy. Coming originally from Hungary, I have been living in the UK on and off for over nine years. I started to work with leather in the early nineties. At that time I earned my living as a teacher, and I was looking for a practical and creative activity as a hobby. I have always been aware of the beauty of the different natural materials that can be used to create beautiful art and craft objects. I was drawn to leather from an early age. I enjoyed the strength, the texture, the durability of the material, as well as the many beautiful and different shades of colours of the hides. I love the way leather gains a shiny patina with time, and I also like the smell of leather.

I soon realised that working with leather has many advantages: you can set up a workshop with a bunch of old traditional hand tools, you don't even have to have any electric power tools. And within a relatively short time you can create simple, unique and beautiful handstitched items. And here we are twenty years later.... Please look at my gallery to see how my designs and craft developed in the past years. Most of my designs are displayed here: bags, satchels, belt bags, cases of various shapes and colours. All is still created with only a bunch of handtools.

The Gallery page of my website shows many of the unique items I've made. If you see something here that isn't listed and would like something similar made, please contact me. Perhaps you'd like to know that I use the best quality vegetable tanned cowhides coming from the UK.

I am a member of the Hampshire and Berkshire Guild of Craftsmen. http://www.craftsguild.co.uk/
